Responding to Crises: Resident Voices
Voices of Experience: Residents Speak on New West’s Crises Response Plan -
In part two of our three-part series, we bring you the voices of New Westminster residents who spoke at city council about the Crises Response Pilot Project. Five delegates shared their perspectives—four in favor of the plan, highlighting the urgent need for harm reduction and supportive housing, and one opposing it in its current form.
David Brett, the final speaker, shared his family's personal experience with addiction and homelessness, arguing that the plan is incomplete without involuntary care. His passionate but measured plea brings forward a key debate in British Columbia’s approach to harm reduction.
Watch as these residents share their lived experiences and perspectives on one of the city’s most pressing issues.
