A New Segment of the Walkway along the Fraser River has been Completed
A new part of the Riverfront connection from River Market and Fraser River Discovery Centre to Pier Park is open.
The area between the two Bosa residential towers is complete and is starting to be used by residents. Bosa Development, the builder, is also in the process of creating more park and a further extension of the walkway to the north-east of the highrises. While behind schedule, Bosa has had to actually create land to make this possible, according to Councillor Ruby Campbell.
The construction of the full route to Pier Park is still in progress, but it is walkable. The City's website information cautions that walkers should follow the signs along the route in order to keep safe.
Aside from being part of the walkway, this area between the highrises is a small park that features an interesting garden area and also a number of Adirondack style chairs for sitting and watching the Fraser River go by.
In this video, Councillor Ruby Campbell explains to journalist Susan Millar about the big vision for a route that extends from the Q to Q ferry to the far end of New Westminter's Pier Park and perhaps beyond. Also, at the Queensborough end – where the ferry lands - the walkable route continues on through the along the Fraser River. The Active Transportation Route will ultimately connect people up to the bridge that goes to mainland New Westminster.
